Programmes for Schools
Our programmes for schools are in line with the curriculum for each grade and designed for specific age groups. They can replace some of the lessons in classrooms.
The activities take place in nature – in the Idrija countryside and in the interesting underground. The students take active part in the programmes and learn new things through various activities and creative workshops, make tokens, and gain valuable experience.
The themes and levels of difficulty are tailored to each group’s requirements.

Fun and Educational Workshops
Idrija Geopark offers various creative, educational, and fun workshops for primary and secondary schools with the aim of bringing Idrija heritage and Idrija countryside closer to younger generations.
The workshops take place in the entire geopark area or the Visitor Centre and can also be carried out in schools. The time and content of the workshops is tailored to the requirements of individual groups.
Students can make a stone cactus or a volcano, look for dinosaurs, taste delicious Idrija žlikrofi or make Idrija lace.

School Network
Learning in nature through one’s own experience is the best way to learn. Idrija Geopark follows this principle and has been working together with all local primary schools for several years: primary schools in Idrija, Spodnja Idrija, Črni Vrh, and Cerkno.
Each year, together with Idrija Geopark, one school prepares an interesting one-day programme for seventh graders – with various workshops, lectures, and presentations. Local experts are also invited to participate, which ensures the high standard of activities.
Students as well as teachers get the opportunity to learn about the diverse natural and cultural heritage within various geopark areas, which can also serve as good teambuilding exercise.
